My Story

I qualified as Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) in 2006. I didn’t know it then but my interest in mental health came from my own experiences of seeing loved ones struggle with addiction, loss and low self-esteem. In my 17 years of working in the world of mental health the NHS and charity organisations in a variety of settings I've come to understand that trauma is at the core of most of our struggles. The focus of my work has always been to understand and heal the root cause of people's emotional pain.

Even though the specifics of trauma might look different for all of us I’ve found that EMDR can be used in the context of an empathetic and supportive therapeutic relationship to overcome whatever difficult experiences there might be to work through. I have experienced EMDR myself and can wholeheartedly say it has made such a difference to how I am in the world. It has allowed me to grow and develop in all areas of my life.

I'm an open hearted therapist who believes in people and their capacity to overcome.  I want to share the tools of EMDR whilst nurturing your individuality and creativity in the healing process.   I will do my best support you on your path to letting go of what burdens you and embracing what fulfils you. I have come to realise that nature and art in all its forms are great healers. Which might explain why I love dancing to music that makes my heart sing, a good stomp in the forest and to read a book or watch a film whilst hanging out with my cat to recharge.

Whilst developing my private practice I continue to work part time in the NHS for a specialist service with clients who have experienced sexual violence. I am interested in systemic injustice and how that plays out in both the wider world and in close relationships.

I believe that each one of us has the ability to heal and that we are the key to our own recovery. Our bodies are incredible and they remember our experiences in ways our mind can’t. Although this can be challenging and can mean that loud noises make you jump or a specific smell turns your stomach, it also means our bodies hold the potential for each one of use to heal. Learning to trust yourself again and your body's ability to recover is a huge part of the recovery process.
